We provide complete transparencyOur funeral directors here at R. Brownless and Grandson can explain all the options available to you for the funeral cortege, should you choose to have one. In a traditional cortege, the deceased in the coffin will travel from the funeral directors in a modern hearse to a location of your choice, via a chosen route or directly to the service venue and then on to the committal location if it’s different. Guests and family members would travel behind the hearse in a limousine, alternative hired transportation, or in their own vehicles.

Although the traditional motor hearse remains a popular choice among many, there are now several alternative options to consider. R Brownless and Grandson can provide a more customized funeral experience with selections that include horse-drawn hearses, a 4×4 Land Rover, motorcycles, a three-wheeler inspired by ‘Only Fools and Horses’, as well as hearses in pink, silver, white, or featuring poppy decorations. Additional alternatives encompass a double-decker bus, a trike, a vintage lorry, and a VW Campervan. A motorcycle funeral provides a deeply personal way to honour someone who had a strong connection to motorbikes or the biking community. Rather than opting for a traditional hearse, a specialised motorcycle hearse can be used to carry your loved one on their final ride.

Horse Drawn
No two person is the same, and neither should their funerals. Thats why we work with North West based Elegant Carriages. Since 1980, Elegant Carriages have grown to be the largest providers of horse-drawn carriage hire in the North West. Each of their horse drawn funeral hearse is tailored to the bespoke need of the client.
Elegant Carriages have a fleet of purpose-built glass-sided funeral hearse for horse drawn funerals. Available in Black, White, Silver and Rainbow each carriage is meticulously inspected prior to the day of the funeral.
The carriage can be pulled by either a pair (2) or a team of 4-6 horses. The family can choose from exclusively white Irish Sport horses or black Friesian horses to match or contrast with the carriage, or you can have a “domino” team which is a mixture of both.
