Direct Cremation coffin

An unattended funeral is where there is a cremation or burial without any family or friends present.

There is often confusion about what this type of service entails, which is commonly referred to as a ‘direct cremation,’ ‘pure cremation,’ or ‘direct burial.’ In essence, all these terms mean the same thing: a funeral without any attendees.

The decision to choose an unattended funeral is often driven by the desire to avoid unnecessary fuss, reduce financial strain, or by the belief that it will spare loved ones from emotional distress.

Research has explored why some people opt for this unattended service and the potential emotional effects it can have on those left behind after the death of a loved one.

Step 1

Your loved one brought in to our care

We will respectfully collect your loved one from *home, hospital or nursing home and bring them to our funeral home in Poulton-ley fylde where we will take good care of them

*(collection out of hours £200)

Step 2

The Cremation

Our experienced funeral directors will then carry out all the paperwork required for the cremation to take place, your loved one will then be transfered to a local main srtream Crematorium.

Step 3

The Return of Ashes back in to your care

We can arrange for the ashes to be scattered in the gardens of remembrance, or hand delivered back to family.

A funeral service with attendees doesn’t have to follow traditional formats—it can be a celebration of life, held in a location meaningful to your loved one, such as a marquee with a scenic view they adored or even a race track, to name just a few possibilities. The key point to emphasize is that a funeral doesn’t have to be a formal, rigid event; it should reflect what is truly fitting for you and your loved one.

An unattended service may be the right choice for some people. We always recommend having an open conversation with loved ones to ensure they understand what this type of service entails, whether it suits everyone involved, and how it might affect their grieving process without a ceremony.

No matter your choice, R Brownless and Grandson is here to offer you and your loved ones professional, compassionate care, treating your loved one with dignity and respect at all times.

There are many van operators in the industry, some of whom may leave your loved one in a mortuary for weeks before transporting them hundreds of miles with other families’ deceased. This couldn’t be further from the truth at R Brownless and Grandson. As a Family we personally care for your loved one at our funeral home in Poulton-le fylde, handle all the necessary paperwork with you, arrange the cremation locally at Carleton or Lytham St Annes, and personally collect the cremated remains. We use a sutable vehicle, not a van or private ambulance and we are professionally uniformed, ensuring we handle everything with the utmost care and compassion.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but it’s important to consider the potential impact, as there is only one chance to lay your loved one to rest.

If you decide that an unattended service is right for you and your loved one but still want to have another opportunity to say goodbye, you might consider arranging a memorial service at a later date.
